Summary: The ladies of Hagerstown continue to minister to the approximately 150 sick and wounded soldiers in the hospitals, aided by others such as Jacob Shoop of Beaver Creek who collected food items from his neighbors for the soldiers. Summary: The (Hagerstown) Mail writes that Alfred Spates, president of the C&O Canal Co., reports that the canal is repaired to Dam No. 6, and that repairs above that point are progressing. The Mail, however, offers no thanks to the “Union boys” who helped protect the canal from the Confederate “Bridge Burners” who would have thoroughly destroyed it had they had the opportunity.

Summary: A member of Gen. Banks’ Division reports that a Union and Confederate picket met in the middle of the river thirty-two miles below Harpers Ferry. They exchanged newspapers and canteens. Also, a mill owned by a Unionist six miles above Harpers Ferry was recently burned by the Confederates.
