The Canal
Summary
The (Hagerstown) Mail writes that Alfred Spates, president of the C&O Canal Co., reports that the canal is repaired to Dam No. 6, and that repairs above that point are progressing. The Mail, however, offers no thanks to the “Union boys” who helped protect the canal from the Confederate “Bridge Burners” who would have thoroughly destroyed it had they had the opportunity.
