Summary: Maurice Albaugh, John McF. Lyeth, and B.H. Schley have been commissioned 2nd Lt., 1st Lt., and Captain, respectively, over Schley's company of 101 men. The company has been mustered into the U. S. Army. Recruits from Middletown are attached to Schley's company. They are now at Relay House and letters from them say they are pleased.

Summary: Deserters from the VA camps are very numerous. One company stationed at Harper's Ferry originally consisted of 100 men and now it consists of 32. The Hedgesville company is losing 2 men per day. Nine deserters from Harper's Ferry arrived in Frederick in one night.

A Clear Spring miller asked his customers to pick up their wheat stored at his mill before it is stolen as he does not want to be responsible. Virginia rebels rob people of Clear Spring of everything they can get their hands on.
