Summary: Responding to "the appeal of the National Sanitary Commission, the Loyal Women of Hagerstown have organized themselves…" to provide items for the relief of soldiers - "blankets, quilts of cheap material…woolen or canton flannel bed gowns, wrappers, undershirts and drawers; small hair and feather pillows and cushion for wounded limbs, woolen socks and slippers." Skirmish at Point of Rocks (November 20th, 1861)

Summary: There was a skirmish at Point of Rocks between a small body of Confederate cavalry and some of the 28th PA Regt. under Col. Henry (?). Capt. Chapman and a group of 25 Union men were under fire by Rebels but killed 3 of them and drove them off. The Union men left a field piece in readiness should the Rebels renew their efforts.

Melancholy Casualty (November 20th, 1861)

Summary: Report on the accidental shooting of a soldier at "Camp Thomas" on the Barracks field in Frederick city. First Lt. J. M. Annan of Capt. Horner's Cavalry Co., First Regt. Maryland Home Brigade and Private Mehring were conversing when a Sharp's carbine in the hands of Mehring went off and shot Annan who died some hours later. His remains were taken to the home of his father, Dr. Andrew Annan of Emmitsburg, with an escort of his comrades.
