A Mournful Occasion (October 23rd, 1861)

Summary: 4 soldiers are killed and 4 are wounded in a battle at Harper's Ferry. They were all from Col. Roger's Third Wisconsin Regiment. The wounded were sent to Frederick City. Those killed were Franklin Lorenzo Tuttle and Henry Clemens of Co. A and Stewart E. Mozier and Henry Raymond of Co. C. The dead, plus another soldier who died at Harper's Ferry from typhoid, were buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick with decent and solemn ceremony and fine walnut coffins nicely lined. D. W. Brooks, undertaker, provided silver plates on the lids of their coffins with their names engraved. Rev. Charles Seymour of the Protestant Episcopal Church conducted the ceremony. The wounded, even the one who was in serious condition, are doing well.
