Railroad Meeting and Memorial
Summary
A unanimously adopted memorial [petition] from a meeting at the Frederick County courthouse to be signed by the people of Washington, Frederick and Montgomery counties and presented to the Maryland legislature. The petition asks the legislature to pass an act incorporating a company to construct "The Washington, Frederick and Lake Erie Railroad Company" to connect Washington with a post on Lake Erie and going through the city of Frederick. The petition argues the advantages of the railroad being a very direct route. There is concern, however, if the signatures of "rebels" on the petition might cause the Loyal Legislature to question the petition.
