The Result of the Election
Summary
The Valley Register rejoices at the results of Maryland's Congressional election where 5 of 6 Congressmen were elected by "triumphant majorities." They are Unconditional Union supporters. The sixth Congressman is a Conditional Supporter and won only because his opponent was unpopular. Hon. Francis Thomas received at least two-thirds of the popular vote. "The present secession Legislature which a short time since undertook to instruct the members of Congress, not then elected, to vote for a recognition of the Southern Confederacy" should heed the way the people of Maryland have voted.
