Unfortunate Affair
Summary
C. Rentch, a "violent" secessionist citizen of Washington County and son of Andrew Rentch, Esq., imprudently boasted in Williamsport that he was involved in the April 19th Baltimore riot and had killed a U.S. soldier with a stone. He said he could "whip" any six Union men. When asked by a Union man in Williamsport to dismount, C. Rentch drew a revolver and shot the man. Rentch was shot in return, tried to run away and was ultimately killed.
