Disunion Convention

Summary

One delegate from Allegany Co., two from Washington Co. and about 12 from Frederick gathered in Frederick to nominate a candidate for Congress to oppose Union candidate Francis Thomas. They chose George Schley of Hagerstown after the nomination was turned down by Kunkel, Hamilton, and Lowe. The Examiner says the rebels are styling their candidate Schley as from the "Peace" party to escape "the dreadful responsibility of having inaugurated Civil War and broadcast ruin..." How can they call themselves a "Peace" party when they have stolen grain, waylaid passenger trains, robbed mail trains, etc., says the paper.
