An Incident

Summary

Two Johnson men reported on what had happened at the Philadelphia Convention. One said "It was the greatest body of men that ever assembled in this country." The other said they were a thousand times the d___st set of rascals that ever met under one roof." The Examiner believes the less complimentary assessment of the convention is nearer to the truth.

AN INCIDENT – Last week two Johnson men of this city delivered themselves as follows in regard to the Philadelphia convention: One of them said “that it was the greatest body of men that ever assembled in this county.” The other replied “that they were a thousand times the d---st set of traitors[?] that ever met under one roof.” A slight difference of opinion, this. We do not agree with either of these gentlemen, but the remark of the latter comes much nearer the mark than the former.
