Union Club
Summary
Petersville voters met to form a Bell and Everett club. Capt. Hezekiah Boteler was named President and H. C. Duvall appointed secretary. The article contains a list of all the resolutions which were passed at the meeting. The club resolved that the most important issue was the preservation of the Union and felt equally that the ideas promulgated by the Republican Party and the Southern Confederacy were equally deplorable. They felt that discussion of the slavery question in Congress was destructive to the harmony which should exist among the states. They resolved that Bell and Everett were men of "sterling worth" and their conservative party is the one to be elected. Report signed by Hezekiah Boteler, President.
