CORPORATION AFFAIRS. – At the meeting of the Boards of Aldermen and Common Council on Monday evening, an appropriation of five dollars was voted to each of the Corporation constables for extra services during the John Brown raid. The subject had been referred to a joint committee of three, two of whom Messrs. Harrisburg and Holbrunner reported adversely to the claims, because the salaries of these officers were increased some time ago for the express purpose of cutting off allowances for extra services, because there was a patrol of citizens on duty to relieve the Constables, and because they did not regard the performance of their duties at that time, as extra services. Mr. J. A. Ritter reported favorably, and the Boards acted on his minority report. The John Brown foray has been a source of political capital to their leaders; but we hope to see the day when the expenses of that invasion shall have been finally paid, and the democracy shall find some new hobby.
