Tax Payers, Look to Your Interest

Summary

Editorial warning the people of Frederick County to beware of the National Union party's cry for "Negro Equality." The real design of the party is for former slave owners to receive compensation for freed slaves. This will greatly increase the state's property tax. Business owners will relocate because of higher taxes and those who remain in Maryland must pick up the burden of paying higher taxes. A leading member of Congress from the Eastern Shore stated, in reference to the legislature of Maryland, that if he lived long enough, he expected to be paid for his freed slaves.
