Union Meeting in Clear Spring

Summary

Union meeting held at the Academy in Clear Spring, District No. 4, Wednesday evening. Denton Jacques, Esq., Chair; George Ernst, V.P.; Dr. H. F. Perry, Sec. Called for citizens to offer resolutions, two offered and adopted, in support of the Constitution and the Union, in support of MD Gov. Thomas Holiday Hicks, "approve of the stand he has taken in refusing to convene the Legislature of the State in a period of intense excitement...", and supports "the final determination of President Buchanan to enforce the laws of the United States in the seceding States...", that South Carolina "is guilty of flagrant violations of law unparalleled in the annals of treason..."
