Washington County Proudly Erect

Summary

Editorial praising Washington County voters for supporting the Constitution and the Union, "a rebuke to disunion intriguers, rebel sympathizers and treason hatchers generally..." Call for unity and those who refuse must "cast their fortunes with the rebels of Virginia, as Lowe and other have done..." Explains that voters who "were challenged upon the ground of disloyalty" were later allowed to vote in Hagerstown. Lists number of votes cast in each election district in both 1860 and 1861. Says election of Mr. Fiery to the Legislature 6 months ago and "has sent into the field a thousand of its able-bodied young men to battle for that cause," proves the loyalty of Washington County to the Union.
