Summary
Robert Swan of Hagerstown, the son-in-law of Dr. Charles Macgill, has been promoted to major of the Confederate “first regiment of cavalry." He was promoted for his conduct during the Battle of Manassas. Swann served in the Mexican War, and his grandfather served gallantly in the Revolutionary War.
