The Fall Election

Summary

The Union Central Committee of Washington County requests that supporters meet at their polling places on Aug. 3 (1861) to select ten delegates to a County Convention set for Aug. 6, which, in turn, will choose delegates to an Aug. 15 State Gubernatorial Convention. The election is the most important ever held in the state. If those who favor the rebellion are placed in power, Maryland will immediately be placed in a position of hostility to the Federal government.
