Summary

The reasons Col. Schley provided for declining the nomination of the “Secessionists at Frederick” for a Congressional seat are “confounding.” He claims to be opposed to secession, yet he expresses gratitude for the nomination to those who favor secession. Other hindrances to campaigning have not prevented his would-be opponent, Gov. Thomas, from campaigning for the seat.
