Union County Convention
Summary
On May 21, 1861, the Union County Convention was held in Hagerstown to elect six delegates to represent the county in the Congressional Convention to be held in Frederick. The six elected were Levin Benton, E.G.W. Stake, P.B Small, Wm. Cushwa, Elias Davis and Denton Jacques. Among its resolutions, it declared devotion to the Union and proclaimed that a majority of the members of Maryland legislature misrepresent the Union sentiment of the state.
