Summary
On Feb. 15, 1861 at Fairview, a 137 foot-long Union pole was raised bearing a flag inscribed with the motto “The Union Forever.” Among the resolutions, it denounced secession, proclaimed that the U.S. government has the right to execute its laws by force of arms, it endorsed the policies of Gov. Hicks and of President Buchanan, and it approved of the Crittenden compromise propositions.
