Who are the Union Men?

Summary

There are two kinds of Union men, only one of which is devoted to the preservation of the Union. The first type supports Gov. Hicks’s policy and has no sympathy with secession. The other wishes to dissolve the Union for the purpose of reconstructing it later. The second type is disingenuous, however, as it only wishes to convince the Border States to join the Cotton States in secession.
