The Colored Band of Hagerstown
Summary
A band of African American musicians from Hagerstown visited Chambersburg recently. The Valley Spirit wrote that after playing music in the streets, the band returned to bondage in Maryland, showing that John Brown’s efforts were not required to improve their condition, and that the Republicans should work to improve the condition of blacks in the north.
