Their True Colors
Summary
A Funkstown resident writes that the “Johnnies” had a recent meeting that was addressed by James H. Grove who claimed to be a Union man, although at the beginning of the war his sentiments were otherwise. The assembly cheered for Confederate heroes, which showed their true sympathies. He also notes that a Johnson Club was formed in the District consisting of fifty members, all but six of whom are disenfranchised due to their support of the late rebellion.
