The Copperhead Meeting

Summary

The “Copperhead Meeting” held on Sept. 8 (1866), was not well attended, numbering no more than 800 persons. At the Court House yards, speeches were delivered by U.S. Senator-elect Sharkey of Alabama, Gen. W.H. Brown, Col. Horne, Rev. Mr. Furgerson of Tennessee, and J.V.L. Finlay of Baltimore. During the procession through town, the Fairview delegation made threats against the Examiner office.
