No Legislature

Summary

The Maryland Assembly tried to have an extra session, due to efforts by the majority to postpone the session by repeated adjournments. No Senate members answered the roll call and the Secretary of the Senate, Mr. Kilgour, adjourned until the afternoon. Only three senators (Union) are known to be in the city. In the House, eleven members answered the roll call, but there was no quorum so the meeting was adjourned. Three delegates known to be in the city declined to attend the session.

No Legislature
The Tory majority in the late General Assembly of Maryland, which has been endeavoring to perpetuate its power by frequent “___” adjournments, was to have met again in extra session yesterday at one o’clock in the afternoon.
At the appointed hour of meeting, there was no member of the Senate present. Mr. Kilgour, Secretary of the Senate, called the roll, and as no senator responded to his name, the Secretary declared the Senate adjourned until one o’clock this afternoon. Indeed, there were but three Senators, Messrs. Kimmel, Nuttle and Bradley, (Union,) in the city, and from a sense of self-respect and regard for the sentiments of their constituencies, they declined to appear in the Senate Chamber. Half an hour later, eleven members of the House of Delegates, answered to the Roll call, viz: Messrs. Salmon Kessler, Gordon MacKubbin, Jones of Talbol, Straughn, Durand, McIntire, Long, Keene and Mills; and there being no quorum present the House adjourned until today. Besides the Delegates who answered, Messrs. Naill and Fiery were in the city, declined to attend.
