23 boys too young to join the Independent Riflemen join the newly formed Junior Corps founded by Capt. W. Saunders of the Independent Riflemen.

Junior Independents – In consequence of the military zeal and spirit manifested by “Young America,” and the frequent application of young gentlemen under the legal age to become members of the Independent Riflemen, Capt. W. Saunders, that ___ corps resolved to organize an accessory Junior corps, and we hear that at the first meeting on Saturday night some twenty-three young men signed the organization and drilled with the Company. It is said they acquitted themselves very credibly, and give promise of speedy and complete discipline.
